Who We Are

Why Roatán VoTec Exists

We are a Christian 501(c)3 non-profit, fully volunteer-operated and entirely free for every student. Every dollar goes directly to training and building homes.

Our Purpose

We train people in Roatán, Honduras to find and keep stable work, and we support them as they look for work in their own communities.

Our Mission

We exist to fundamentally transform the work practices and living conditions, both materially and economically, of the labor sector through providing housing and training that includes the application of globally recognized standards and norms.

Our Story

From a Jungle Clearing to Mission Trip #10

What started as a dream and a concrete slab has become a fully equipped vocational campus, and a homes-building ministry that changes families forever.

2022
A Clearing, a Slab, and a Calling
Roatán VoTec launched with a freshly poured concrete slab, a blue tarp for shade, and a conviction that the people of Roatán deserved expert training, free of charge. When the rains came in, students covered their tools and found a tree for shelter. Classes ran anyway.
The founding vision came through Pastor Travis Morin: build modular homes for families who have land but no structure to stand on it. Hearts for Homes was born in that first year.

2023
Students Built Their Own School
In 2023 our construction students didn't just practice framing. They framed and finished the 24×24 ft office and classroom they now learn in. Every wall panel, every electrical run, every drywall sheet was a live class. The building that stood up was their graduation project.

2024
A Full Campus. Air Conditioning. Real Courses.
The campus grew into a fully equipped vocational training center: air-conditioned classroom, hand tools and power tools, bilingual syllabi in English and Spanish. Courses expanded to include Housekeeping, Sewing & Textiles, and Outboard Motor Repair alongside the construction core. The first class of graduates launched their own businesses on the island.

2026
Mission Trip #10: Hearts for Homes Is the Anchor
February 2026: Mission Trip #10. The goal was a 20×20 ft home for Pastor Rosell's mother in the colonial area of Roatán. Students built the modular wall panels in Week 1. The missions team trucked them to the prepared foundation and raised the home in Week 2. The family moved in.
Hearts for Homes is now the defining program of Roatán VoTec, the moment where a skill learned in the classroom becomes a real wall standing over a real family.

The Campus

From Empty Lot to Thriving Campus

In 2022 this was a jungle clearing. Classes ran on a concrete slab under a blue tarp. When the heavy rains came, students covered their tools and found a tree for shelter. Today it's a fully equipped, air-conditioned vocational campus, built by the students who learned in it.

How students built our office

Our 24×24 ft office was built by our Construction Class students from 2022 to 2026.

Started with a pile of 2×4 lumber
Framed free-standing walls, 6 ft wide by 8 ft high
Installed the electrical and plumbing inside
Hung drywall and painted a fun color scheme
Joined the walls together on the concrete slab
